“Persimmon – the Umami” is from the Origin series that explored various items that stem from the artist’s childhood and heritage. The rice field landscapes in Japan, hoshigaki (dried persimmons) you find in the winter, the ginko leaves, shishito peppers and more - all in which symbolize different seasons in Japan.
This piece is a sequel to a piece, “Persimmon”. It takes place roughly 3 months after it. The persimmon has finally embraced his path and has been enlightened.
The Origin series was first exhibited at the Honolulu studio/showroom of Tomi Bratland, a metalsmith and jewelry designer of Nature Metal Works. It was a joint exhibition with the designer where two different artists explored the same theme.
