“Shishito” is from the Origin series that explored various items that stem from the artist’s childhood and heritage. The rice field landscapes in Japan, hoshigaki (dried persimmons) you find in the winter, the ginko leaves, shishito peppers and more - all in which symbolize different seasons in Japan.
She asks - Hey, Shishito. Can I see the insides? Shishito replies - Well, yes you can. But you have to show me yours.
The Origin series was first exhibited at the Honolulu studio/showroom of Tomi Bratland, a metalsmith and jewelry designer of Nature Metal Works. It was a joint exhibition with the designer where two different artists explored the same theme.
